On my second day here at Bravo Group I was assigned my first project. I was asked to create speaker biographies for the organization Discovering Cures. Before that day I was unaware of the organization and was interested in learning more about what they do, so I decided to do some research.
Discovering Cures is one of the many related organizations that make up the Biotechnology Industry Organization or BIO for short. BIO works in four sectors (emerging companies, food & agriculture, health, and industrial & environmental) to develop products and new technologies to improve lives by harnessing different cellular and bimolecular processes.
Discovering Cures is a coalition Bravo helped create. They work to educate stakeholders about the uses, developments and impacts of biotechnology, on both the state and federal levels. Their vision is to bring new health, hope and quality of life to millions of patients.
With the help of Bravo Group, D.C. has been using Twitter to facilitate an ongoing dialogue that is started during the educational briefing events. These events work to help empower members of the coalition while educating state and congressional delegations. This way they can inform and educate as many people as possible.
Currently their education efforts center around the substitution of biologic products and the potential impact those products will have on patient safety. Biologics are treatments for patients with complex medical conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease.
Discovering Cures currently has education efforts in 11 states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Texas.
Personally, I find it very exciting that there is an organization that is educating patients and their families on their treatment options while they fight these conditions.
Until next time,
