Spring is just around the corner and that means colleges are letting out for spring break!
If you were anything like me in college, I never had the money to spend on an extravagant spring break vacation when my classmates did. While they were getting their tan on in the Caribbean, I was still in the freezing Pennsylvania weather. But just because you can’t afford to take a cruise does not mean you can’t have fun over spring break.
US News Travel named the top 9 cheapest spring break destinations as:
South Padre Island, Texas
Daytona Beach, Fl.
Playa del Carmen
Average in the cost of a flight, hotel, food and spending money and the cheapest destination on the list may still be too much money for your budget. Fret not! I’ll be the first to admit I did not think Pennsylvania had much to offer, but I’m happy to say I was mistaken. You may not be able to take a full week vacation abroad but you could spread out your break taking a long weekend or several day trips throughout PA!

Some places even have wine-themed events like Music and Wine at the Armstrong Valley or Winyasa, Yoga and Vine at the Crossing Vineyard and Winery. You can also take a winemaking class at the Chelsea Sun Inn in Mount Bethel, PA where you can make your own wine and take it home with you! ($25.00 – $400.00)
Take a day to rest and relax after your midterms at the Hershey Spa. Massages, body wraps, facials, pedicures and fitness classes! It doesn’t matter what treatment you have, you’ll be able to access all of the fitness facilities, relax in quiet rooms, tour the grounds, or take a fitness class like Yoga or Pilates. The Hotel Hershey also has various restaurants to have lunch and/or dinner. ($85.00 – $700.00)
Eastern State Penitentiary Tour

If you’re into sports, PA has many professional winter sports teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and the Hershey Bears for ice hockey (starting at $25.00) or the Philadelphia Sixers basketball ($7.00 – $500.00).
Any of these day trip ideas can easily turn into an overnight or weekend long trip. If there were enough days in the week you could probably budget each one of these trips under the cost of one Spring Break destination listed above! So no matter where you are over Spring Break you can still have fun on a budget!
